The sea was calm that day. The sun reflected on the water, and the ship glided confidently across the smooth surface. The crew expected an ordinary watch, but suddenly something strange appeared ahead.
Rising from the depths of the ocean was a huge green sphere. It looked metallic, but at the same time unnaturally smooth and too perfectly shaped.
At first the sailors thought it was a buoy or part of some research equipment lost during a storm. But the closer they approached, the stronger the feeling of unease became.
— Is that… a mine? — one of the sailors whispered, gripping the railing.
The captain raised his binoculars, looked for a long time, and only frowned. On the sphere’s surface were strange protrusions, like tiny nodes or embossed dots. None of the instruments detected radio signals, which made it even more frightening.
The crew prepared for the worst. Silence hung over the deck. People exchanged glances — everyone understood: they would prefer this to be ordinary debris rather than something secret.
As they approached, they noticed mounts on the sides and raised ridges. One of the sailors dared to reach out with a boathook and tapped lightly on the surface. A dull metallic sound echoed — confirming the suspicion: something was inside.

Later it turned out: it was a fragment of experimental oceanographic equipment. Such spheres are installed for studying currents and deep-water flows.
Usually they are fixed on anchors and equipped with sensors. But a storm or a technical malfunction could have torn the system loose, and now this “ocean eye” was drifting in the open sea.
However, one oddity remained. There were no markings or numbers on the hull. Just clean green metal, as if someone had intentionally made it anonymous.
The captain ordered the coordinates to be recorded and a report to be sent. But, as the sailors later admitted, each of them had the same passing thought at that moment: what if it wasn’t a scientific device at all, but something more serious, something that would never appear in public reports?
